Consortium at Leather Footwear Futures

From Friday through Sunday, October 28-30, Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) will host the second edition of Leather Footwear Futures, a series of workshops and discussion centered on vegetable tanned leather and its peculiarities.

For Consortium is not the first time at RISD: two years ago it took part at the first edition of this event presenting “Craft the Leather on The Road“, a training program aiming to enrich the technical know-how of designer & makers of the international fashion system.

This year the Tuscan Vegetable Tanned Leather Consortium will organize workshops with master craftsmen visiting from Tuscany. The aim of this event is to let the students know the material, cultural values of the vegetable tanning process and its sustainability.

Leather Footwear Futures will be an amazing experience because each partecipant will know the Techniques and Tools of Leather Craft and the master craftsmen, with a lot of practical examples,  will demonstrate how to use them and how to work well the material. Each student will be provided materials and tools to work with during the class.

Participants will work directly the material and experience the characteristics and peculiarities of vegetable tanned leather. So, they might consider of using it in their future projects.
