Ten students, from international fashion and design institutes of excellence, participated in Craft The Leather 2018:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Kaori Sugisawa<\/strong> \u2013 Bunka Fashion College &#8211; Japan<\/li>\n<li><strong>Margaux Lavevre<\/strong> \u2013 Central Saint Martins \u2013 UK<\/li>\n<li><strong>Xi Zhe Yu<\/strong> \u2013 China Academy of Art &#8211; China<\/li>\n<li><strong>Roger Cos Mira<\/strong> \u2013 ELISAVA Barcelona School of Design and Engineering &#8211; Spain<\/li>\n<li><strong>Saumya Sharma<\/strong> \u2013 Fashion Institute of Technology &#8211; USA<\/li>\n<li><strong>Honoka Yamanaka<\/strong> \u2013 Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry \u2013 Japan<\/li>\n<li><strong>Crystalyn Brennan<\/strong> \u2013 Pratt Institute Brooklyn Fashion &amp; Design Accelerator &#8211; USA<\/li>\n<li><strong>Yuna Shin<\/strong> \u2013 Rhode Island School of Design &#8211; USA<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alice Robinson<\/strong> \u2013 Royal College of Art \u2013 UK<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stina Randestad<\/strong> \u2013 Swedish School of Textiles &#8211; Sweden<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each student designed and made an original collection of personal accessories in Tuscan veg-tanned leather, all of high quality for content and manufacturing, which were displayed at Lineapelle in Milan from February 20<sup>th<\/sup> to 22<sup>nd<\/sup>, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Lineapelle is one of the most important international leather fairs and this edition of the trade show was visited by over 20.000 professionals. The stand of Craft the Leather at Hall 15 achieved resounding success and received gratifying feedback by designers, manufacturers, and press on the quality of the exhibited prototypes, with thousands of visitors who stopped by to view and photograph the collections. This result is confirmed by over 1,100 ballots cast by the professional community visiting the fair.<\/p>\n<p>The collections in competition were voted by a Panel of Experts, by the visitors at the fair and online by the consortium\u2019s followers.<\/p>\n<p>The panel of experts who formed the jury were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Antonella Bertagnin<\/strong> &#8211; Creative director and \u201cTrend Selection\u201d coordinator at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lineapelle-fair.it\/en\">Lineapelle,<\/a> she is today considered to be one of the foremost and most trusted Italian trendsetters in the field of footwear and leather goods<\/li>\n<li><strong>Roberta Bindi<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Editor in Charge of<a href=\"http:\/\/www.collezioni.info\/\">&nbsp;COLLEZIONI<\/a>. Distributed in over 54 countries, the Collezioni group is the undisputed leader in the fashion magazine sector, at the service of trade operators, opinion leaders and anyone with a passion for images and creativity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Marco Marchetti<\/strong> \u2013 Studio 44, design and product research studio<\/li>\n<li><strong>Liza Snook<\/strong> \u2013 Shoe collector, founder of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virtualshoemuseum.com\/\">Virtual Shoe Museum<\/a> (the online museum &#8211; a renowned platform for shoe designers and shoe lovers) and curator of exhibitions and events all over the world. Besides the exhibitions, she scouts talent, helps designers to promote their work, judges at design colleges and works as image researcher for international publishers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sue Saunders<\/strong> \u2013 a doyenne of Footwear Education and Specialist Footwear Tutor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <strong>five criteria<\/strong> for the Jury:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em> Design inspired by qualities intrinsic to Veg-Tan Leather<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em> Innovative use of Veg-Tan Leather<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em> Excellent Aesthetics<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em> Craftsmanship<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em> Story telling of the Collection\/ Does the Collection engage?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The <strong>weighted average<\/strong> of the three ballots, in which the jury vote had a higher percentage than the popular votes, produced the following final ranking:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Stina Randestad<\/strong> \u2013 Swedish School of Textiles<\/li>\n<li><strong>Xi Zhe Yu<\/strong> \u2013 China Academy of Art<\/li>\n<li><strong>Roger Cos Mira<\/strong> \u2013 ELISAVA Barcelona School of Design and Engineering<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The <strong>winner<\/strong> of the seventh edition of Craft the Leather is <strong><em>Stina Randestad<\/em><\/strong> from Swedish School of Textiles for her collection \u201c<em>Flatpack<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Special Prize <\/strong>of the Jury Panel has been assigned to <strong>Xi Zhe Yu <\/strong>of the China Academy of Art for her collection \u201c<em>Shuowen \u2013 Zaowu\u201d<\/em>. Designers who did not make the top 3 were also rewarded by industry contacts for special collaborations and by visitors at Lineapelle.<\/p>\n<p>The words of the winner, Stina: \u201c<em>WOW! What a wonderful experience this has been! I feel very honoured to receive the first price, since there were so many talented and hard working designers this year. I had the opportunity to see all the works for myself when visiting Lineapelle and I was truly impressed.
