Craft The Leather on The Road: New York 2017

A new edition of Craft The Leather on The Road is coming: on this occasion Consortium will be hosted by Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. It will be a two-day workshop in which the students might discover vegetable-tanned leather.

Craft The Leather on The Road: the program

Craft The Leather on The Road – New York 2017 starts on 15th March, from 12 to 2 pm,  with a seminar at Katie Murphy Amphitetatre where the vegetable-tanning process will be explanied to the students. Therefore an opportunity to understand the peculiarities of this valuable artisanal tradition. At the end of the seminar, the creative workshop will start – attendance reserved to FIT students. For all of them there will be the chancey to experience first-hand vegetable-tanned leather in Tuscany. The master craftsman who will show some manufacturing techniques is Giorgio Testi.

In parallel with the two-day workshop there will be a pleasant surprise for all the students of FIT: in fact, from 9th to 27th March 2017 all the collections realized by the participants in Craft The Leather 2015 and 2016 will be showcased in the Marvin Feldman Center Lobby. There will also be the two winning collections, respectively “Cutting Edge” realized by Maria Sole Ferragamo and “Orlandi’s Opera” realized by Kira Anne Goodey.

What is CTL on The Road?

As the name suggests, Craft The Leather on The Road stems from Craft The Leather but, unlike this last one, it is an intinerant training project, that is obtaining a very positive outcome abroad. It has already been presented in several important cities, like Seoul and London. And now also New York. The aim, since its very beginning in 2014, is to promote all over the world the unique features and the technical specs of vegetable-tanned leather and to enrich the technical know-how of designer/makers of the international fashion system.
